Three months is a lot of notice

It's funny that several people I've told about my upcoming contract have had this reaction. But it is very true. For my last contract, I was asked less than a month before the start of the contract and it was another week or so before things were set in stone. I have heard about people who were given less than one week of notice.
Ordinarily, you would think that for a life change as significant as a six month contract, one would need a lot of time to prepare. I need to quit my local jobs, find a subletter for my apartment, and decide what to do with all of my stuff. I also want to make a couple purchases for the trip before I embark (a folding bike and a camcorder). I also want to find a way other than flying to get to San Diego. It won't take three months to accomplish all of this, but it will take some time.
The bad thing about having so much notice, is that I am having trouble focusing on my current day to day situation. I like to read articles and blogs about working and playing on a cruise ship. I like to read any reviews that I can find about my next ship. I like to research the destinations. I like to read reviews about the purchases I want to make. I also like to watch any youtube videos that are even remotely related to any of these things. Hopefully the anticipation that I feel will not bog down my remaining land based commitments.
